For my wedding…
Q: For my wedding, my fiancé’s mom wants to wear the gown she wore to her daughter’s wedding. It was very expensive, but I thought she looked like a moose. What should I do?
A: One day I’m going to write a book called What Was She Thinking? People often spend scads and scads of money on formal clothing that just doesn’t flatter them in any way. But don’t fret—take action. You could tell her that while the neon pink gown with the gold fringe is quite striking, you would love it if she wore something that blends in with the ivory and sage palette of the party because she’s such an important part of the wedding. Or you could have your fiancé do the dirty work—I mean, have that conversation—instead. If your MIL-to-be remains adamant about wearing the fuchsia number, however, let her. Trust me: nothing she wears will have any reflection on you.
